My first experience at Cayo CET (Perception vs Reality)

  • Categories blog
  • Date March 9, 2015

My first day at Cayo CET was a whole new experience. I didn´t know what to expect that day. As I entered the gates of I immediately knew that I had made the right choice. I was nervous and lost, but as the day went on I felt more at home. The instructors and students made me feel at home. Cayo CET offered me a safe environment filled with experienced, friendly instructors. When I first started I thought it was going to be like high school, but I was totally wrong. Here at Cayo CET I learnt to do hands on training. It is a great institution to start a career. So far I have had a superb experience.

After graduating from the University of Belize with an Associates’ Degree in Business Administration in 2001, I joined the workforce in various capacities at one of Belize’s leading institutions – the Social Security Board. After 11 years of quasi-governmental experience I then started teaching at the Cayo Centre for Employment Training in 2012. It is here where I developed an appreciation for human interaction and for the freedom, creativity and spontaneity inherent in the job. Since then I’ve become part of a strong technical / vocational team which has never ceased to grow and develop. My roles have included teaching information technology Levels 1 and 2 and its application to the various trade programs and assisting with the financial running of the institution; all of which I thoroughly enjoy to this very day.
